Dominic Valadez

Dominic is a San Antonio native composer and educator with a passion for providing a multifaceted approach to learning music. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Composition from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master’s in Music Theory from the University of Minnesota, he is able to give students musical insight beyond strictly just technique and performance practice and will often employ the use of “non-canonic” music from popular culture to facilitate his teaching when needed. Outside of IofMA, Dominic teaches Music Theory and Ear-Training at Northwest Vista College, and has had his compositions featured on multiple studio recordings, recitals, festivals, and conventions around the country with many more premiers scheduled to come. His works use lush, colorful harmonies, and complex formal structures that are evocative of many impressionist works.
